A celebrant based in South Wales

Working with couples and families who want to mark the milestones in their lives in a unique, personal and meaningful way

No two people are the same and therefore it follows that no two ceremonies should ever be the same. Whether it’s a ceremony celebrating a Wedding, Vow Renewal or Commitment, a Celebration of Life or a Baby Welcoming or Family Ceremony the words shared on this special day should be all about you.

I work with couples and families who don’t want the same as everyone else to create unique ceremonies which reflect them in every word, which have special meaning for them, which are informal and relaxed but also deeply significant. We start with you.

Based in Abergavenny I am perfectly situated to cover Monmouthshire, Herefordshire, Powys, Greater Gwent and across the whole of the UK.

Hello. My name is Jane Grayer

I’m Jane Grayer and I’m an award winning celebrant based in the beautiful market town of Abergavenny in South Wales with my husband. I have a really eclectic CV starting out as a Stage Manager in theatres across the country and moving on to a variety of roles in charities and lottery funded projects with a stint at running a community centre in there as well.

However the job which really started me on the path I’m on now was when I became a Relief Registrar, which effectively meant that I registered or conducted weddings at weekends. I loved doing it, being part of so many people’s special days but it did get a bit frustrating when I found myself effectively repeating the same words at seven ceremonies in one day (as everyone had gone for the same options).

At that point I started to look around for alternatives. It struck me that when I had got married I had to have a legal ceremony separate to my Buddhist ceremony and that it was the second one which I felt was my Wedding Day. After all, it was this day that was saying what was important to me and my husband and which reflected our belief, our values everything that we were basing our married life on. My wedding dress was blue velvet, so nothing about it was conventional. I’d never really thought of myself as ‘alternative’ before!

And so here I am – five years later working with other couples and families to enable them to find their voice and say what they want to say in the way they want to say it on their special days! And all of the time I spent as a registrar still comes in useful!!

About the same time I came across the wonderful world of Steampunk and so as Unity Ironbright I create ceremonies for the Steampunk Community, where corsets are an everyday occurrence!

I came into this work to enable everyone to be able to celebrate in the way that’s right for them – with no restrictions, no boundaries, nobody else dictating what they can or can’t do. For me the most important thing is choice, and that’s what I give to my couples and families, I’ll keep offering ideas and options until we find the perfect mix.

The likelihood is that if you’re reading this you are looking for something a bit different and whether that is simply that you want your ceremony to be outside or whether you want a fully themed alternative day I’m happy to help you to achieve it.
